The students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have taken to the streets to express their grievances over the recent policies implemented by the university management.
The protest, which started on Tuesday, is still ongoing, with students bearing placards at the front gate of the university.
At the centre of the protest is the management’s decision to ration electricity supply on campus to 10 hours daily.
According to an internal memo, the electricity supply will be available from 8 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 2 am.
The students are rejecting this move, stating that it is unacceptable in this 21st century.
The students are also protesting against the hike in tuition fees, which they say is unbearable.
The Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, has called for a total reversal of the new electricity schedule and tuition increment.
He also demanded a constant power supply within the school premises and a refund for those who had paid the new fees.
The protest has been peaceful, with students marching around the campus and carrying placards with various inscriptions.
