Chuka University’s establishment was prophesied in 1951 by Jerusha Kanyua, who predicted the emergence of an academic institution in Ndagani. In 2004, Prof. Erastus Njoka led a committee appointed by Egerton University to explore the possibility of establishing a campus in the eastern part of the country.
After consultations with education stakeholders, Chuka was chosen as the location due to its central position. Renovations were carried out at the Ndagani educational complex, and on August 1, 2005, Chuka University College was officially opened as a Constituent College of Egerton University, succeeding the former Egerton University Eastern Campus College.
The establishment of Chuka University College aimed to provide accessible and affordable high-quality university education to the people of the Eastern region and Kenya as a whole. It was founded on September 27, 2004, by the Egerton University Council. Prof. Njoka was appointed as the Director of the new campus college. The college’s formation was later formalized through Legal Notice No. 161 of 2007.
