The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Management has taken a drastic measure by suspending all final-year students from the Departments of;

  • Environmental Protection and Management
  • Microbiology and
  • Mass Communication.

This decision comes after the students flagrantly disobeyed the Management’s directive banning reckless driving, flying of colours, and wild celebrations after examinations.

According to a circular with reference number UC/REG/DISC 45 dated August 7, 2024, the student’s actions were in clear violation of the rules.

The suspension notice, signed by the Institution’s Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, stated that the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, is deeply saddened by the development, which tarnishes the students’ reputation.

Consequently, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, has been directed to suspend all actions related to processing the affected students’ results.

The matter has been referred to a Special Management Committee for investigation and recommendation.

The Deans of the affected faculties have also been instructed to ensure full compliance with Management’s directive.
