Students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have taken to the streets to protest the prolonged blackout on campus, which has left them without electricity and water for over six (6) days.

The protesters, comprising hostel students from Halls 4, 5, and 6, converged on the main entrance of the university, chanting We need light and water in the hostel.

The peaceful protest, which began in the early hours of July 2, 2024, has resulted in the closure of the university’s main gate, preventing students, lecturers, and non-academic staff from entering the campus.
